John and Anna

John and Anna lived in a very small mining settlement in Southern AZ. They both left at an early age to get married (separately from each other) and start a new. Later in life both their spouses died. They, once again, found each other, got married and moved back to the place they started. By then, it became a ghost town. But together they built a new house on the property and shared their story to all that would listen.

I liked to visit them!… In this image, John has had cataract surgery and, at somewhere in his 90’s, could see like an eagle. In his left hand you will notice him holding onto those very think glasses of his. I suppose he thought his surgery was going to go bad on him (never did!).

Great couple, I miss them very much. Cool love story.

All of my large format photography is captured with a 4 x 5 view camera, (one of those cameras that need a black cloth over the back; Ansel Adams Style). Each image is meticulously composed under the black-cloth with just me, the ground glass, and my lens to achieve a relationship with my subject. Each picture is taken one sheet of film at a time, Old School, resulting in very sharp images.

Once the film is developed, it is then drum-scanned to get the highest resolution print possible. Printed on Hahnemuhle Photo Rag Baryta.
